BOONSBORO -- Longtime coach, father and father figure Dwight Scott recently celebrated 50 years of coaching at Boonsboro High School in Washington County. Pictured here with current Boonsboro track coach Becky Walter, Scott, 78, began coaching football in 1957 at Lewis Palmer High School in Monument, Colorado. He relocated to Boonsboro in 1959 and coached the Warriors in football for 18 years, track and field for 37 years, cross country for 19 years, athletic director for 18 years and assistant track and field coach for 13 years.

Highlights:
In football, Scott finished with a career coaching record of 93 wins, 66 losses and 7 ties. His teams of 1968 and 1969 both went undefeated and Warriors gridiron squads earned 10 league, region and district championships.

Over a 3-mile cross country course, Scott coached five girls teams to state titles and guided three individual female state champs. On the track, Scott guided five more girls team state title-winners and "many" individual state champions, including 38 in hurdles events.

Coach Scott garnered Maryland State Coach of the Year recognition in 1985.
