Rice, Sober grab chilly victories in Jingle Run 5K

Event proceeds benefit the Frankfort High School cross country team

FORT ASHBY, W.Va., Dec. 11 - Jeremy Rice and Jen Sober cruised to individual men's and women's victories, respectively, on Saturday during the sixth annual 5K (3.1-mile) Jingle Run that started and finished at Fort Ashby Primary School.

Proceeds from the run and two-mile walk benefit the Frankfort High School cross country team.

Nearly 40 seconds separated Rice, 28, of Frostburg, from runner-up Dennis Mickey, 45, of Ridgeley, W.Va. Rice stopped the clock in 16 minutes and 58 seconds to Mickey's official time of 17:37.

Cumberland's Tim Robinette, 17, placed third overall in 18:13 and Grantsville resident Tom Ruckert, 58, took fourth in 18:26. Woody Snoberger, 25, edged Brett Gordon, 19, by four seconds to round out the top five spots.

Jen Sober, 37, of McHenry, won the women's title in 19:37, good for 10th place overall in the 98-runner field. Megan Hamilton, 34, was second female in 21:52 and 12-year-old Kaylee Buckbee, of Cumberland, was third overall in 22:17. Masters runner Connie Milligan, 42, of Cumberland, placed fourth in 22:26.
