The Hereford cross country course has been rated as one of the toughest in the United States, but Atholton's Graham Bazell easily answered its challenges yesterday.
Bazell set a new record for the hilly 3.1-mile course, posting a time of 15 minutes, 51 seconds to easily win the Elite Division race at the Bull Run Invitational. The senior prevailed amid strong individual and team efforts.
Bazell ran by himself throughout en route to a 43-second victory over DeMatha's Corey Puffett. He didn't realize how close he was to the record - which topped the previous mark by eight seconds - until he saw the clock at the finish line.Read More

Instead, he came to Parkton Saturday and broke the record on Hereford’s legendary course by a remarkable nine seconds at the weather-delayed Bull Run Invitational.
Mike Myers (Eastern NJ) set the previous standard of 16:00 in 2000 on this incarnation of the difficult state championship meet course, which has been in use for 14 years. The likes of Matt Centrowitz, Shane Stroup, Steve Duplinsky, and Robert Wetzel had run within a few seconds of Myers’ time. Read More
