Subject: ERR Summer Plans
Greetings from ERR:
It is that time of the year again. We hope everyone has their legs under them and you are getting ready for some races. We have a lot going on at ERR and wanted to make you aware of a few things:
Summer Training Runs:
The Summer Training Run Schedule will be posted on the website in the next few days. We will start the night runs on June 18th. As in years past, most of the weekly runs will start at 7PM at various locations around Eldersburg. This year, Pete Lester Jr. will be the director of the program. Pete brings a lot of energy to the program, and as a participant, logged more than just a few miles with the club. He knows the trails and loops about as well as anyone and we hope you will all follow his leadership. Please keep an eye on the website and message boards for updates.
Summer Running Retreat:
The Registration form is up. This year's retreat will be from July 22 -
24 and for the second year, it will be held at Cacapon State Park (WV).
If you are a high school athlete interested in getting ready for your fall sport, we hope you will join us. The cost is $145 and includes a one year membership in ERR. Also, we are looking for one or two more chaperones. If you are a runner and would enjoy being a chaperone, please contact us (WeekendRetreat@errun.org).
Half Marathon Training Group & Road Trip:
We have had some interest among alumni and adult members in training for a long race. To encourage this interest, we have reserved 5 rooms and are planning on taking a group of adults to compete in the Virginia Beach Rock and Roll Half Marathon (Labor Day Weekend). Information is posted on the website. We have a training program to help you get there.
The Long Training Runs will be done on Saturday mornings at 8AM out of AlphaPark. Again, visit the website to learn more ( www.errun.org ).
Youth Summer Track & Field:
The Youth Summer Track and Field Team is in full swing under the Direction of Andrew Bokman. We had over 35 athletes sign up and we have seen some dramatic improvement in the performances. They are now preparing for the upcoming AAU Qualifying Meets.
Youth Cross Country:
We are discussing the creation of a Youth Cross Country Team. If you have interest in seeing this program get off the ground, we would like to hear from you. We are trying to gauge interest from both parents and athletes. If you have interest (as either a participant or a Volunteer) please contact president@errun.org .
4th Annual Labor Day 5K Rogue Race
Plans are underway and we hope you will mark you calendar and plan to participate in our Labor Day 5K Rogue Race... and yes, the Half Marathoners will be back the night before - so you could do the ERR Double - a Half Marathon on Sunday, and a 5K on Monday!
Freedom Ultimate Frisbee:
Lastly, but certainly not least - the Linville family has been very involved with ERR on a variety of levels. Last year, Randy Linville fostered some Ultimate Frisbee pick-up games that were well received. We encouraged him to formalize the activity through Freedom Area Recreation Council, which he has done. We hope you will support this activity. It is a great way to get in some speed work, and have fun at the same time.
For more information, visit the website: www.freedomultimate.org .
A Clinic will be held on June 9 with games held at HodgesPark every Wednesday night at 6:30 (near LHS, off Hodges Road).
We hope you have a great summer and we look forward to seeing you soon.
