DeWitt, 21, outpaced fellow Frostburg standout Jaron Hawkins, 26, and stopped the clock in the downhill race in 1 hour, 9 minutes and 25.66 seconds. Hawkins was second in 1:09:55.09.

Jen Sober, 36, of McHenry, placed fifth overall in the women's field with a time of 1:30:34.62. Amy Rowan, 29, of Cumberland, placed 53rd overall and won the women's 20 to 29 age division. Heather Peters, 17, also of Cumberland, was the third local female to cross the line. She finished in 1:52:36.48, an 8:35 pace over the 13.1-mile course which featured a net drop of 800 feet in elevation.

After DeWitt, Hawkins and Sober, three more local runners finished inside the top 40. Timothy Smith placed 17th overall in 1:24:42.25 while Rob Smith, 44, of Cumberland, placed 23rd in 1:26:19.57 and Bill Meek, 37, of Keyser, W.Va., was 38th in 1:30:18.55.

Zach Bittinger (49th, 1:32:13.31), Joe Bever (Swanton, 62nd, 1:34:59.13), Derrick Staggs (Keyser, 64th, 1:35:49.01) and Sean Sober (McHenry, 68th, 1:36:05.41) all finished less than four minutes apart. Cumberland residents Richard Malcolm (1:38:05.35), Brent Simpson (1:44:17.77) and Marty Dunnington (1:47:59.37) rounded out the local contingent's best efforts.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Frostburg resident Dan DeWitt led 391 finishers, including 15 area runners, in the ninth Deckers Creek Trail Half Marathon on Saturday in Morgantown, W.Va.
