Indians' Buser finds out she's D-1 for EKU
ANDREW MASON  andrewm@herald-mail.com
Rachel Buser of Berkeley Springs High School has received a full scholarship to attend Eastern Kentucky University.
All those first-place medals Rachel Buser has won in recent years have proven to be worth almost their weight in gold.
The Berkeley Springs senior is set to sign a letter of intent today to continue her running career at Eastern Kentucky University as an NCAA Division I full-scholarship athlete.
I've always wanted to run D-I, said Buser, a 12-time West Virginia state champion in track and cross country. ?I didn?t know if I'd get a full ride or not, but it happened. Read More

By RICK KOZLOWSKI/Journal sports writer |
BERKELEY SPRINGS — The immense and often intense pressure on Rachel Buser eased a bit on Thursday.

“It’s pretty exciting,” Buser said.Read More

Indians' Mock makes leap to WVU
By Rick Kozlowski, Journal sports writer
BERKELEY SPRINGS —There’s word association; then there’s song association for Berkeley Springs’ Meghan Mock.
As a sophomore, the West Virginia University track and field signee had the Beatles “Drive My Car” affiliated with her.
During her junior year, her track teammates assigned Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend” to Mock as she listened to the song continuously during one meet last season — and then it stuck in her head later, the refrain playing over and over.
A senior season possibility might include Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer,” given her small physical stature.Read More
Jordan is surrounded by her parents, Ron and Michelle Hamric, of Bruceton Mills. In the back row are coaches Paul Martin, Paul Sines, and Brian Miller.
Jordan earned all-state honors in cross country her senior year by finished 9th at the WV State Championship.  On the oval, she has earned all-state honors a total of eight times.  Highlighting her all-state performances is an individual state championship in the 3200 meter run (2007).  She also was a member of Preston's 4 x 800 meter relay team that set an all-time and state meet record in the spring of 2007.
At the team level she has been a member of three state runner-up teams in cross country (2004, 2005, 2006).  In track & field, she was a key contributor to two state championship teams (2005 and 2006).
Jordan will be joining former teammates Kaylyn Christopher and her sister, Karly Hamric, on the Mountaineer cross country and track teams.
MacFawn going to Syracuse

Cumberland Times-News
CUMBERLAND - Allegany High School graduate Lauryn MacFawn has signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent to continue her running career and education with an academic and athletic scholarship to Syracuse University.
The five-time Maryland State Class 1A champion will be following another former Allegany standout Jordan Davis to the New York college. He just concluded his collegiate career as cross country and distance runner for the Orange.
Syracuse completes as NCAA Division I school in the Big East Conference and is coached by former Martinsburg High School and Auburn University star Chris Fox, who is preparing for his fourth season. The Orange is coming off one of the best women's cross country campaigns in the history and was nationally ranked part of the season before missing by only seven points of the going to the National Championships.

Doddridge runner commits to Richmond
Grandt set state record in cross country

By JIM BUTTA, jbutta@newsandsentinel.com
WEST UNION - Few could blame area cross country and track coaches if they didn't attend the graduation ceremonies at Doddridge County High School last month.
Among the list of those expected to receive their diploma was Bulldog standout Levi Grandt.
Not only did that event occur, but the two-time Class AA/A cross country champion did so knowing that his college career was just around the corner.
"He (Grandt) never really talked about it (college)," head boys' track coach Chris Cress. "By the time I really knew anything about it, he was going to Richmond."Read more
