Online registration NOW OPEN - Mtn Md Marathon Festival
CUMBERLAND - Registration for Mountain Maryland Marathon Festival is now open.
The pre-race dinner for the second annual event is scheduled for April 17 with all six running events being contested on April 18 beginning and finishing in downtown Cumberland. Proceeds from all of the events benefit County United Way, which serves a four-county area in far western Maryland and West Virginia.
The marathon and half marathon are to be run on USATF-certified courses. The shorter, 13.1-mile event has been designated the Eastern Region Half Marathon Championship by the Road Runners Club of America.
There's also the two-person marathon relay, half marathon, 5K for United Way, kids marathon (1.2 mile run) and 400-meter tot trot.
"I think potential runners will truly appreciate the lower, early-bird registration fees for most of the events," said Kevin Spradlin, Mountain Maryland Marathon Club executive director. "They almost have to be among the lowest prices for similar events across the country, and most certainly in this area. Early-bird registration goes through Jan. 31, so there's plenty of time."
Paper registration forms will be soon be available, but race officials are pushing electronic registration to promote an Earth-friendly environment in Mountain Maryland.
Along with lower early-entry fees, the Mountain Maryland Marathon Club is making the purchase of its race premium - a high-quality, high-tech performance custom T-shirt - optional.
"Runners can choose to pay for the shirt, or they can save a few bucks," Spradlin said. "It's completely up to them."
