Buchman's actions override words

Boonsboro's Robert Kornides finds the right height to clear the bar on his way to winning the high jump during the MVAL Antietam Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at Hagerstown Community College.
Jesse Buchman lost his cool, but not his fire Friday night at the fifth annual MVAL Antietam Indoor Track & Field Championships at Hagerstown Community College.
The Williamsport junior won the 500-meter dash, but was disqualified for an unsportsmanlike remark he made at the finish line, costing the Wildcats valuable team points in their quest to knock off two-time defending champ Smithsburg.

Donaldson sprints to win for Hubs

Justin Donaldson's story is strikingly similar to his friend Jarell Hasan's - except for one thing.
"I don't think he's faster than me," Donaldson said.
Donaldson, a senior at North Hagerstown, said he decided to run track this winter for the first time since his freshman year to get in shape for college football.
Hasan, who recently completed his first football season at Shepherd University, won three Maryland state titles as a first-year sprinter for the Hubs last year. He, too, joined the North track team to prepare for football at the next level. Read More

HAGERSTOWN -- Thomas Johnson's girls team held off North Carroll, 112-111.5, to win the MVAL Chesapeake championship on Saturday at Hagerstown Community College, while the Linganore boys defeated county rival Urbana, 137-84.
Thomas Johnson's Najjiyya Franklin-Huff won the girls 300 (40.7 seconds) and Lauren Wilmer won the 500 (1:21.7). Stephanie Bryant won the 3,200 (12:37.5) for the Patriots and TJ's 3,200 (10:20) and 800 relay teams (1:49) were winners.Read More

HAGERSTOWN -- The Middletown boys and girls both won team titles at the MVAL Piedmont on Saturday night.
Middletown's boys won with 118 points. Individual champions for the Knights were: Alex Edelmann, pole vault (13-6); Evan Murray, 55 hurdles (8.0); Justin McVoy, shot put (44-4; and Jimmy Greene, 1,600-meter run (4:50.9). Ty Shaffer, Sean Castelow, Tyler Kelley and Jaraad Yates won the 800-meter relay (1:38).
